Call for Scholarship Applications 2021 for Post Docs and Staff

Post Docs have the opportunity to apply for scholarships at 1) at universities or research institutions in Germany or 2) Sub-Saharan African universities.

(Senior) staff members (holding a PhD) from a Sub-Saharan African university have the opportunity to apply for Staff exchange fellowships.

1) Postdoctoral Fellowships in Germany: The purpose of the postdoctoral fellowship programme is to provide opportunities to DAAD Alumni to conduct, under the guidance of their host institutions, co-operative research at a German university or other research institutions. More information on deadlines, lengths of stays, budget etc. can be found here.

2) Postdoctoral Fellowships in Sub-Saharan Africa: The purpose of the postdoctoral fellowship programme is to provide opportunities to DAAD Alumni from SubSaharan Africa to undertake research during the tenure of the award. More information on deadlines, lengths of stays, budget etc. can be found here.

Only DAAD Alumni (former scholarship holders) of the SA-GER CDR are eligible for Post Doc options

3) Staff Exchange Fellowships in Sub-Saharan Africa: Senior staff members (holding a PhD) from a Sub-Saharan African university can apply for an exchange stay at another Sub-Saharan African university. More information on deadlines, lengths of stays, budget etc. can be found here.

DAAD InRegion Scholarship opportunities at CDR

Candidates from Sub-Sahara Africa can apply for a DAAD InRegion Scholarships for Studies at the South African - German Centre of Development Research. Scholarships are available for the Master in Development Studies and the PhD in Development Studies, both offered by the Institute for Social Development of UWC, partner of the CDR.

Application deadline is 27 April 2023. More information is available via the DAAD call for applications.

No Call for the MADM at UWC in 2023

Please note that we are currently not accepting any applications for the MADM at the University of the Western Cape as no intake will start in South Africa in 2024. If you are interested in studying the MADM programme, please apply for the MADM in Bochum. See the "How to apply" section of the Website of the Institute of Development Research and Development Policy in Bochum for further information.
