As part of and with the generous support from the German-South African Year of Science, the Development Research Division of the South African German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice cordially invites you to participate in its Advanced Year of Science Publication Workshop. The workshop takes place at the University of the Western Cape, Cape Town, South Africa, from the 11 - 15 February 2013. For more information see also "Call for Applications". First Networking Conference and Alumni Seminar on "Evaluation of Projects and Politics" took place!

With the support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the first Networking Conference and Alumni Seminar on "Evaluation of Projects and Politics" was organized by the Development Research Division (DRD) of the South African-German Centre for Development Research and Criminal Justice.

The Conference took place from 05 - 15 February 2013 at the School of Government/University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. 14 graduates from one of the programmes offered at the DRD (Bochum Programme of Development Management, MA in Development Studies, MPA as well as related PhD options) were selected to participate. Additionally, 41 current students of the Bochum Programme of Development Management took part in the first week of the Conference. For more info please see: pdfProgramme

Prof. Julian May live on SAFM

mayThe director of the ISD, Prof. Julian May, was invited by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to give a public lecture on "Poverty and Education in South Africa: Why do schools in poor communities underperform?" at the University of Johannesburg on 23 August 2012, together with Prof. Hoppers (University of South Africa). From 19.00 - 21.00 SAFM Radio was providing live broadcasts of the lecture followed by a roundtable discussion lead by SAFM presenter Mrs Masechaba Moshoeshoe.
